Lorna Brand

Lorna Elizabeth Brand had three wins over jumps in 1994. She rode as a conditional jockey for Mrs Pam Sly and it was on her Ima Delight that she had her first victory when the seven-year-old rallied after appearing beaten and landed the Sherborne Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Warwick on January 8, 1994, scoring by a neck.
Her second win came at Nottingham on November 12 when the nine-year-old Singlesole, looking to have every chance when hitting the last flight, battled back to beat Moonshine Dancer by a length and a quarter at the end of the George Farndon Handicap Hurdle, a race for lady jockeys. It was Singlesole’s second win of the season, following up a success under Sophie Mitchell in a similar contest at Market Rasen.
Lorna had her third and final success when Ima Delight proved far too good for 14 rivals in the Clifton Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Nottingham on December 17, 1994, winning by 13 lengths. They were beaten a long way in their only subsequent outing.
