Alan Cousins

Alan Martin Cousins was born on November 7, 1950, and lived at 8 Willow Lane, Clifford, Boston Spa, Wetherby.

He served a 5-year apprenticeship with Winkfield trainer Jimmy Walsh and, aged 20, signed on for another three years, becoming retained to Derek Bastiman.

He rode his first winner, Madam Clare, at Folkestone in 1968. His best season came in 1972 when he rode 21 winners.

On February 23, 1974, he married Anne Wagstaff. She gave him three daughters: Helen, Suzanne & Laura.
