Harry ‘Tubby’ Aylin was born at Greenwich, one of four brothers who went on to become jockeys.
He was apprenticed to George Lambton and gained his biggest wins in the 1901 Northumberland Plate on Reminiscence, the 1902 Chester Cup on Carabine, the 1902 Queen’s Prize on Wabun, the 1902 Liverpool Spring Cup on Pellisson, the 1904 Craven Stakes on Airlie, and the 1904 Sussex Stakes on Mouesqueto.
He was champion jockey in Germany in 1905 with 73 winners.
He later rode over jumps.
Harry married Marie Courtenay, the daughter of music hall star Marie Lloyd.
His brother Clyde (1887-1922) was champion jockey in Ireland, where he died in 1922 following a race fall.
Harry Aylin died in Brussels on October 19, 1927, aged 44.
