On November 15, 1913, well-known jockey Tommy Burns was instantly killed when jumping in front of an elevated train at Brooklyn, New York.
Tommy had been born in 1879 and, in 1907 became champion jockey in Germany while riding for the stable of Graditz.
He rode again in Germany for a short while between 1911 - 1912, meeting with little success on his return to England.
