William Chaloner

1854 - 1935 

William Craig Chaloner, born in Manchester in 1854, was the younger brother of Tom Chaloner and uncle of George.

His first ride came on Miss Euclid at Richmond on August 15, 1868. He was just 13 years old and weighed 3st 7lb.

He broke his leg in the 1875 Cambridgeshire.

William was a Bentinck pensioner for most of his long life and died at 75, Huntingdon Road, York on April 18, 1935.

He was buried in an unmarked grave in York Cemetery.

His biggest wins were:

1872: Portland Handicap (Little Nell)

1874: Northumberland Plate (Lily Agnes)

1875: Portland Handicap (Grand Flaneur)
