Henry Bray

Henry 'Ben' Bray was born in Shropshire and rode five winners at Newmarket on October 28, 1857. That year he also finished runner-up in the jockeys' table with 82 winners.

He was badly hurt in a fall at Lincoln two years later.

Two years after that, on March 25, 1861, he died of consumption, aged just 23. He left over £1,000.

Good winners included 1856 Lincoln on Flageolet, 1859 Goodwood Cup on The Promised Land and the 1859 Portland on Tight-Fit.
