Ryan William Redpost Cody-Boutcher was born on 9 August 1978 and rode his first winner, Howqua River, at Pontefract on 7 October 1996.
Ryan always claimed this to be the highlight of his career.
An apprentice, he was retained by Peter Chapple-Hyam who operated from Manton House Stables in Wiltshire.
He made his racecourse debut riding Barossa Valley for Chapple-Hyam at Newbury on Friday, August 11, 1995.
He enjoyed his best season in 1999 when riding 6 winners from 81 rides. He had his most rides the following year when partnering 141 mounts, winning just 5.
By 2003, with just one win from 65 rides, the writing was on the wall.
Still claiming 5 pounds, he rode for the last time on Friday, August 8, 2003, when partnering King of the Tweed for trainer J Sheehan at Wolverhampton.
