Richard William Crisp, born in Penrith on 13 July 1890, was apprenticed to R. W. Armstrong: he eventually spent some 30 years connected with the stable.
Richard's biggest win was on Billy the Verger when he won the 1908 Royal Hunt Cup.
He also took the 1908 Ayr Gold Cup on Raeberry and the 1911 Ayrshire Handicap on Star Of Doon.
Richard died at Leeds on November 24, 1953, aged 63.
His father, William, was also a jockey, and died in November, 1920, aged 59.
