Joe Cornwall was born on 1 August, 1990.
By 1 August, 2014 - his 24th birthday - Joe had, from 691 mounts, ridden a total of 35 winners: 33 over fences & two over hurdles.
With an eye to the future, he had also contacted that wonderful organisation, JETS (Jockeys' Employment & Training Scheme).
They were able to help him achieve his ambition to acquire business skills to fall back on when he days in the saddle were over. Jets provided Joe with a Scholarship towards the cost of a university course.
Joe repaid them in spades by winning a BSc Hons Degree in Management from the University of Warwick Business School.
Joe said after: 'With this under my belt, I have something for the future...'
'It's never too early to contact Jets' would seem to be the message to other young jockeys worried about life after racing.
Joe's first ride in public had come on Runaway Bishop - trained by his father, John - on 22 October, 2006, at Towcester. He finished seventh of the fourteen that finished.
It was the same horse which gave Joe his first winner the following March. Victory at his eleventh attempt!
Unfortunately, Joe never made it as a professional rider: he rode his final mount, The Society Man (pulled up), on 26 September, 2015, at Market Rasen.Â
