Jonathan Ashley Adams was born on 13 August 1964.
Aged 15, he became apprenticed to Geoff Lewis and rode his first winner on Tender Trader in the Radcliffe Apprentice Handicap at Nottingham on 5 September 1983. The four-year-old led all the way to win by a length.
Jonathan rode 13 winners altogether, the best of which came on Solo Style in the Midlands Cambridgeshire at Wolverhampton on Bank Holiday Monday, 25 August 1986.
On 21 November 1987 he married Amanda Jane.
His last winner was at Ascot on 27 April 1988 when Roubayd, trained by Reg Akehurst, led all the way and held the challenge of the favourite Billet to land the Chobham Apprentice Handicap by a neck.
