Danny Brock rode more than 100 winners between 2009 and 2021. He enjoyed his best season in 2014 when partnering 27 winners from 218 rides.
He recorded three winners from 38 rides in 2021, the last of which was gained on Solomons Judgement, trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, in a class 6 all-weather handicap at Chelmsford City on 4 July. He had what proved to be his final ride 18 days later when finishing third on Suzi’s Connoisseur, also trained by Chapple-Hyam, in a class 6 handicap at Yarmouth.
At a hearing later that month he was fined £140 for marking a horse in a six-furlong race at Chelmsford City after stewards discovered the rider had used a whip with two elastic bands attached. An independent disciplinary panel replaced the fine with a seven-day suspension and found the elastic bands had been left on the whip in error. This led to an outcry on social media and the jockey said he felt his career was over after receiving death threats. He left racing soon after and became a greyhound trainer.
In December 2022 he was due to appear at a major disciplinary hearing over allegedly breaching four rules. He chose not to attend, citing fears for his own and his family’s safety should publicity arise from the matter.
The disciplinary panel considered whether he had breached the rules relating to the communication of inside information, was involved in corrupt or fraudulent practices in relation to racing and repeatedly failed to ride horses on their merits and also to achieve the best possible placings.
The case involved nine all-weather races between December 2018 and September 2019, one at Kempton, one at Southwell, two at Lingfield and five at Chelmsford. Seven of them involved Mochalov, who Brock rode eight times, winning once and finishing second twice.
In January 2023 he was found guilty of corrupt or fraudulent practices in relation to racing after a judicial panel found he had ridden to ensure defeat for the benefit of associates who had bet against his mounts.
He was banned from racing for 15 years and also subsequently lost his licence to train greyhounds.
