Gordon Baty

Gordon William Baty held a National Hunt jockey’s licence for the 1952/53 season, but it was not until October 24, 1953, that he recorded the first of his two victories. This came at Towcester when Musbah, trained by Jack Clarke, won the Slapton Selling Handicap Hurdle by eight lengths. Musbah was a 10-year-old who usually won one race a season and, like Gordon, failed to add to his score, despite six more outings.

Gordon rode his second winner at Uttoxeter on October 2, 1954, when Beeston, owned and trained by David Brown, beat 23 rivals to take the Ingestre Novices’ Hurdle, although he had to survive an objection by Mick O’Dwyer, rider of the runner-up Bagaini, for ‘crossing at the last flight of hurdles”.

Gordon Baty held a licence for one more season but had no further success.

Gordon's first win: Musbah, October 24, 1953.
