Geza Csillag, a Hungarian jockey who had been riding in Egypt, made his debut in British at Yarmouth on August 4, 1948. His first mount, Doubtless, finished sixth but his next, an hour later, was a winner. This was Winsome Princess, who led all the way to win the Wellington Maiden Plate for three-year-olds, beating the Charlie Smirke-ridden odds-on favourite Miss Amoya by half a length.
The following day, Geza registered his second success at the meeting when scoring on Hilali in the Harbour Stakes.
At Brighton on September 16, Geza brought the Bob Emery-trained Jaycis with a strong late challenge to win the Pycombe Maiden Handicap. He rode the horse again at Nottingham on October 4, finishing fifth.
He had his final ride in Britain on Malgache, who finished tenth in a field of eleven for the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on October 28, 1948.
Another Hungarian-born jockey, Albert Klimscha, achieved far greater success in Britain, riding 47 winners between 1959 and 1962.
