Clive Candy

1946 - 2005

Bertram Clive Candy, born at Salisbury on February 3, 1948, started his career as an amateur, turning professional in the 1967-68 season.

His first winner was Last Town at Wincanton on March 10, 1966.

His two most important successes were the United Hunts Chase in 1970 on Grey Sombrero and the 1978 Grenham Handicap Hurdle on Mackelly.

He retired from race-riding in 1982 after about 115 winners and became assistant trainer to Jim Old.

He quit racing in 1987 and worked as a driving instructor in Somerset.

Clive died at Salisbury on December 16, 2005, aged 57.
