Edwin Clayton rode one winner over jumps when Foreign Exchange, trained by Tom Masson, beat 22 rivals to claim the Crowborough Hurdle at Plumpton on February 23, 1959.

He had partnered Foreign Exchange on his two previous outings, finishing third at Fontwell Park on Boxing Day and fourth at Hurst Park on February 5. Following that Plumpton success, the four-year-old did not run again that season.

On March 16, 1959, Edwin had a fall from Token in the Westergate Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2) at Fontwell. It is not known whether that was sufficient to terminate his career, but he had relinquished his licence by the time Foreign Exchange reappeared the following February.
