Richard (Dick) Curran was born in Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary, on August 8, 1924.
He was first jockey to the Berwickshire stable of John S Wright from 1945 to 1957.
He was associated with that great mare, Bramble Tudor, who won 17 races including the Great Yorkshire at Doncaster. In a three-mile steeplechase at Wetherby, she gave a stone and a beating to another outstanding mare, Kerstin.
Dick Curran had a great record at Aintree, twice winning the Topham Trophy (1950 & 1951), the 1948 Valentine Chase and the 1958 Becher Chase.
He died on August 12, 2014.
