Frank Cox
Article by Alan Trout
Born in 1893, Frank Cox rode four winners over jumps in the late 1920s. He had his first success at Warwick on February 7, 1927, when his mount Artistry won the Ashow Selling Handicap Chase by three lengths.
Artistry then ran twice at Pershore’s two-day meeting in May, finishing unplaced in the Dillingham Selling Handicap Chase on Monday 2nd, then winning the Tiddesley Selling Handicap Chase the following day, the latter contest being rendered a relatively easy task when his sole rival, Kilgubbin, refused.
Having run 25 times in two seasons, Artistry was unable to provide Frank with further success. However, the eight-year-old Vaudricourt proved an able substitute, winning the Marston Selling Hurdle at Uttoxeter on April 17, 1928, and then adding the Pitchcroft Selling Hurdle at Worcester on May 3.
Frank Cox continued to hold a licence until relinquishing it during the 1931/32 season but rode no more winners.
