Dermot Browne

Dermot William Patrick Browne, the eldest of five children, was born in Ireland on October 29, 1961, and twice became champion amateur (1981-82, 28 wins & 1982-83, 33 winners) but wasted his talent by doping horses, eventually being warned off for life.

He stood 5ft 11ins. His first winner was Nebbian at the Curragh in July 1980.

He won the Supreme Novices Hurdle in 1984 on Browne's Gazette and that year's Fighting Fifth on the same horse. Other good wins came on Berlin in the 1986 Tingle Creek Chase and the 1983 S.G.B. Handicap on The Mighty Mac.
