Peter Brookshaw

Thomas Peter Brookshaw (he rode as Peter Brookshaw) was the brother of champion National Hunt jockey Tim Brookshaw. Unlike his famous sibling, Peter never turned professional and gained his biggest win in the 1950 Liverpool Foxhunters' Chase on the seventeen-year-old Hillmere.

He was a leading rider in hunter chases and point-to-point during the 1950s, his many victories in the latter sphere included a division of the Lady Dudley Cup – the Gold Cup of point-to-pointing – in 1957 on Prospero.

He is the father of successful amateur riders Peter Brookshaw Jnr and Steven Brookshaw, trainer of 1997 Grand National winner Lord Gyllene. They both emulated their father by winning the Lady Dudley Cup. His grandson, Richard Burton, was a multiple champion point-to-point rider and rode more than 400 winners between the flags and many in hunter chases before turning his attention to training.

Peter Brookshaw died, aged 92, in early September 2019.

The funeral was held at Shrewsbury Crematorium
