Ronald Bradley

Ronald William Bradley was an apprentice jockey attached to the stables of Fred Darling at Beckhampton, Marlborough.

Operating just after the Second World War and with a riding weight of 6 st. 4 lb., he first appeared on racecards when riding Darling's Model Flight in an Apprentice Nursery Handicap at Newmarket on Tuesday, October 30, 1945.

His first win came on Rainbow's End the following season on Friday, August 23 1946 at Worcester. It was just a two-horse race, and Rainbow's End, trained by Darling, won by half a length at 8/13.

He became a successful apprentice, achieving a best score of 23 winners in 1950, but he only rode four winners the following year, having lost his claim. His final winner was on a horse called Yogi in the Scarborough Handicap at Pontefract on Thursday, June 18, 1953.

He continued riding without setting the world alight until Tuesday August 3, 1954, when he partnered Sweet Curry for trainer C. Johnston at Ripon. This was his last ever mount; he then turned to training and enjoyed moderate success.
