John Boardman

Jockey John Edward Boardman was born in Wigan in 1876. 

During the winter of 1902-03, John won 25 out of 30 races in South Africa. This total included six consecutive winners at the Kenilworth (Cape Town) meeting on Saturday, February 21, 1903.

Shortly after, he returned to England to fulfil his engagements at the stables of Newmarket trainer Frederick Day.

He died at Westwood House, Exning, Newmarket on July 16, 1909, aged 33. He left estate valued at £9,619 gross.

His son, John Edwin Boardman (c1907-1929) had a brief career as a jockey in the mid-1920s but only rode one winner.
