Freddie Blake

Freddie Blake

Frederick Vincent Blake was associated with Hednesford, Staffordshire trainer Earl Jones during the 1960s. He held a professional Flat jockey’s licence for just one season, in 1967, but had very few of rides and no winners.

Among the horses he rode for Jones was a two-year-old filly named Surprise Catch. Freddie was entrusted with the ride for her racecourse debut at Wolverhampton on May 22, 1967, finishing last of twelve.

He rode her once more that year, again at Wolverhampton, when sixth of seven on Saturday, July 22 in the Doctor Abernethy Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
