Raymond Berry

Raymond John Berry, born on April 7, 1955, was apprenticed to Staff Ingham (on the Flat) and Ron Smyth (NH).

Ray lived at 87, Albert Road, Epsom and he nominated Cider with Rosie as the best horse he rode.

Raymond rode his first winner when scoring on Green Chartreuse at Brighton on August 1, 1972.

Like so many other young hopefuls, Raymond never made it as a jockey.

Rides were almost impossible to find - he only had a handful in 1974 - and by the end of that year, it was all over.
