Peter Bedford

National Hunt jockey Peter Bedford held a licence from 1959/60 to 1965/66 and was associated with Willie Stephenson’s Royston stable throughout his career.

He rode four winners, the first of them on Stephenson’s five-year-old gelding Gordios II in a selling handicap hurdle at Stratford-on-Avon on Saturday, February 20, 1960.

The second was on the Tom Corrie trained Columbus in the Huntingdon Handicap Hurdle on Easter Monday, April 15, 1963.

His other ride that day, Willie Stephenson’s My Wonder, finished fourth in the Brampton Hurdle.

Stephenson’s mare Release Me gave Peter his third success when winning the Ormskirk Handicap Hurdle at Liverpool on New Year’s Day 1964. He had previously finished third on her at Nottingham in December.

Another Stephenson-trained handicap hurdler, Chatterley’s Lover, was the fourth and last of Peter’s winners, landing a novice riders’ event at Plumpton on February 10, 1965.
