Malcolm Barrett

Malcolm William Barrett, of East Allington, Totnes, was born on February 2, 1955.

He served a three-year apprenticeship with David Barons and rode his first winner for him on 33/1 outsider Patent in the St Just Three-Year-Old Hurdle at Newton Abbot on December 4, 1973.

Never fated to be a prolific winner, he enjoyed his most successful season in 1978-79 with six wins. He rode a total of 24 winners altogether.

On June 16, 1979, he married Sylvia Beavil.

Away from the racecourse, Malcolm enjoyed golf and squash.
