3rd Grade News

Dear Third Grade Parents,

Thank you for making this Fall Festival such a wonderful experience for our third graders! We really appreciate all your effort and hard work.

We would like to inform you that our authors have been putting forth their best effort to complete their informational writing piece with all they have learned on their topic. They have also planned their piece by adding all the work that professional informational writers follow.

We want to inform you that our Science high school teachers and students are collaborating with us and helping our students by sharing more information on animal adaptation with them. Our third graders interviewed them and jotted down notes to add to their informational writing pieces!

They will also be able to show all they’ve learned in their multiplication unit by working on their Unit 2 Post Assessment. Your child will be taking home their Student Book if you would like to have them review some problems for this day.

Our third graders will begin their taking action project next week! For this activity, they have taken home their planning sheet to inform you about the materials they will need to work on in school. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Please also stay tuned for our soon-to-come Math Parent School on Nov. 22nd. Save the date!

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

What tigers are doing at school...

Young scientists use their observation skills to identify animals' adaptations. Also, students will focus and work on their adaptation project. They started brainstorming and identied important materials to use for their projects. We focus on the three important elements: adaptation, challenges, and taking actions.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Talk about how animals adapt to their environment. Continue observing the birds and plan to build a bird feeder if you haven't done yet.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Emotions, thoughts, and actions are connected. When we change one, the others are affected too. In this lesson we will practice working with and discussing how emotions, thoughts, and actions work together so that we make useful choices.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Friends and learners will play a game where they respond to situations and show the connections between emotions, thoughts, and actions. Recognizing that their emotions influence their thoughts, and both influence their actions, they will work on “popping” those unhelpful thought bubbles and swapping them for more helpful thoughts, leading to more helpful actions.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Think about a situation you had with a friend that was challenging. What were your initial emotions and thoughts? Did you act on those emotions and thoughts or did you “pop” your unhelpful thought? What was the action you took? You can use the response connection flowchart
