2nd Grade News
Dear Parents,
Time keeps rolling, we had a great Valentine's day and now we are getting ready for our Student Led Conferences coming up on February 28th and March 5th, make sure you sign up for your best time and date. Students have to come to school with you for the conference. Next week is filled with lots of learning, in Literacy students will infer character's feelings, in Math Tigers will learn about coins including dollar bills. Next Wednesday February 28th we have Student Led Conferences children do not come to class but come to conferences with his parents. If you signed for March 5th, students have a regular school day, parents come to the classrom at the time you signed for the conference. Please find below our next week's learning focus.

Fiction readers will notice clues about character's feelings.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
English Literacy: Readers will infer character's feelings. They will post sticky notes with the feelings they inferred previous the reading. Study Characters closey chart.
Phonics: Word builders have to watch out for vowel patterns. They will learn to try vowel teams sound in different ways and be careful not to separate them when breaking up big, complex and long words. Finally, they will learn about the R- controlled vowels. What readers & writers could be doing at home...
English Literacy: Readers will write in sticky notes what they think the characters are feeling.

Lectores en casa:
-Puede exponer puntos de vista iguales y diferentes entre sus libros (debate)
-Pueden elegir uno de sus libros favoritos de la serie y escribir una carta de opinión, dar razones y ejemplos que respalden su opinión.
-Puede crear una manera creativa de compartir sus conocimientos a través de un juego, de preguntas y respuestas, donde él estudiante sea el que responda a todas las preguntas, y luego intercambiar papeles para comprobar si la información fue comprendida por su audiencia.
Mathematics
Learning Goal
Students will be counting by 5's and 10's forward and backward rom numbers that don't end in 0 or 5. They will also identify coins or dollars.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
We will develop an understanding of place value through the context of money. Students will use five and ten frame models to count money eventually working with the 25 cents coin as a unit that is composed of groups of 5 and 10.

Students will be doing a self reflection on what they have learned from the unit about Rivers. They will be also getting ready for SLC.

Share with your parents all the facts you learned about rivers in this inquiry. What are some doubts you still have. What is something else you would like to learn about rivers.
