Kindergarten News

Good afternoon Kindergarten Families,

Another great week has gone by and kindergarteners continue growing as readers, writers and mathematicians. In writing, they celebrated becoming authors and published their first writing piece to their classmates, ask them at home about the story they chose. In math, they were introduced to a new workplace and learned new vocabulary "greater than" and "less than". In spanish, students finished with reading workshop and will start a new writing unit called "Show and Tell". Today was Mrs.Karen's last day before she goes on maternity leave. Please click on the following link for a message she has for all of our Kindergarten community.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

ELA: Students will learn to read text from left to right, one word after another, with one-to-one correspondence.

Phonics: Students will learn more snap words and will be finishing our 1st unit.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

ELA: Students will continue to build on their word study and will focus on one-to-one matching. They will learn the importance of previewing texts by peeking through a book, page by page, looking for things they know.

Phonics: Students will progress through the "How to learn a word" steps to learn more snap words: "I, like, my" by heart. They will learn each word with increasing independence.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

ELA: Students are encouraged to practice independent reading at home and then sharing their book hip to hip with a partner and ask questions: Who was in the story? What did ir happened? Where did it happen? My favorite part was?

Phonics: Practice the snap words already learned at home by following the "How to Learn a word" steps.

Snap words: a, the, me, I, like, my.

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Los escritores mostrarán y contarán a través de su escritura sus cosas favoritas.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Iniciamos nuestro nuevo taller de escritura "Mostrar y Contar", los escritores aprenderán a agregar palabras a sus dibujos de objetos favoritos, aprenderán a estirar los sonidos de las palabras y que no tienen que ser perfectas, también aprenderán a trabajar con sus compañeros de escritura para agregar más.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

En casa pueden dibujar sus juguetes favoritos y luego etiquetar sus partes, pueden iniciar con el primer sonido y poco a poco van agregando más letras. Ejemplo: Si dibujan un carro, pueden agregar el primer sonido C

Mathematics

Learning Goal

Students will explore numbers from 0 to 10. They will continue to develop one to one corresponance, cardinality, subitizing and combinations of numbers 0 to 10.

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Students will continue to count objects and arrange them into lines, arrays or circles in order to answer How many? questions. Mathematicians will also be introduce to the Number Rack. This powerful tool will support students on developing critical understanding of numbers.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Mathematicians can use objects around the house or yard, and use them to make groups, count and compare which is greater. Ex. Find as many rocks, as many sticks as you can in your yard. Count hom many each group has. Then compare which group has more?

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

Students understand the life and behaviors of a bird and its interaction with the environment.

What tigers are doing at school...

Students will continue working to build new vocabulary, and knowledge through experimental experiences.

What tigers could be doing at home...

It would be a great opportunity to use the birds identifier chart, so you could see the variety of birds that live nearby you.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Learners and friends understand what is the Peace Place?, learn peace Place steps through simple examples and practice Peace Place steps through role playing.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Learners and friends use the peace place poster as a guide to follow the steps to resolve a conflict. Also, through examples, they role-play with their partner to practice the steps.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Share story time with your child, and when you see a conflict between the characters, mention how we can help the characters resolve the conflict, use the steps to guide them
