2nd Grade News
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Time is flying! September is about to finish and our students have learned many things! They are learning all about plants and how to be strong observers, they represented their models by drawing plants that grow outside and the plants that grow inside of a classroom. We also had a lot of math practices this week, and we are ending our Reading Unit. Next week we will begin the Nonfiction Writing Unit during English Literacy block, our students will start Unit 2 in Bridges where our Tigers will estimate, count and compare numbers and we are also ending the Phonics Unit. Please find below our next week's focus.

English Literacy
Learning Goal
Writers will write around areas of expertise and when the topic is one they know well, they will start a book right away and write it quickly. They will also learn from the experts and will try to do it in their own books.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Phonics: Students will be looking for and listening for rhymes noticing when spelling doesn't match. They will also compare rhiming patterns to become stronger speller. To celebrate their growth in unit 1, they will be creating their own silly rhyme books.
Writers will choose Nonfiction Books- Authors: Gail Gibbons and Seymour Simon
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Phonics: Read the following Poem and find patterns in it. Cicle them, think of more words with those patterns and write them down.

Los escritores se preparan para publicar sus libros, deben revisar y editar sus libros.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Español: En esta semana cerramos nuestra última unidad de estudio en el taller de escritura y los estudiantes se toman el tiempo para aprender de otros autores, releen todos sus libros e inician a revisar y editar. Los estudiantes eligen un libro y se preparan para publicar su libro y celebrar el final del taller.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
-Leer cada uno de los libros escritos.
-Elegir un libro para publicar y celebrar tu crecimiento como escritor
-Revisar con el cartel si mi libro contiene cada una de las partes.
-Editar las partes y palabras en el libro que no hacen que la lectura se escuche bien.
-Comprobar con la lista de verificación de 2do grado si alcancé mi meta como escritor.
-Publicar. Lee tu libro a papá, mamá, hermano o amigo y demuestra todo lo que has aprendido en este taller. (Busca tu cuaderno de español y lápiz, quizás tengas que anotar los comentarios que tu público haga sobre tu libro)
-Felicidades Escritor, hay un reconocimiento para ti que puede ser impreso AQUÍ. o bien escribe a abustos@ans.edu.ni para ser enviado.

2nd graders will practice estimation, counting and comparing quantities to develop place value skills.

Mathematicians will be estimating, counting, and comparing quantities of Beans in order to develop place value countign skills to 100.
What mathematicians could be doing at home...

Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow.
What tigers are doing at school...
Students will be reading books together about plants and making connections between what they are reading and the observations they have made during class. Also, they will conduct an experiment in wich they plant a bean seed in groups and observe how it grows in 3 different scenarios: sunlight, little sunlight, no sunlight.
What tigers could be doing at home...
We encourage our young scientifics to go to their back yard or patio to observe the plants that receive sunglight and the ones that don't. They should write down their observations and questions on a separate piece of paper so they can share in class.

Learners and friends learn about caring for others through examples such as sharing or using kind words.

Learners and friends learn the definition of compliment through simple examples. Friends and learners practice complimenting each other.

Practice with learners how to say and receive compliments from family and friends

Please make sure students bring their ANS sweaters with their names on it. Our students visit many places and it will very hard for them to find them.
Home connections are submitted every Friday.
Please make sure students bring healthy snacks. Candies or Chocolate Bars are not allowed. Toys are not permitted.
Please make sure you send an email to the teacher notifiying any important information about your child regarding after school or any other important announcement before 12 pm.
