Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

We will learn to change unhelpful Worm thoughts to helpful Caterpillar thoughts when we make mistakes or face a challenge.

.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

We’re going to do an activity to practice using a growth mindset. We will read a situation and think about what feelings and actions the character might take if they had a Worm thought or the belief that things will stay the same. We will swap that Worm thought for a Caterpillar thought, or the belief that we can change. We will determine if the Caterpillar thoughts lead to more pleasant emotions and helpful actions.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

When have you found yourself having Worm thoughts? How were they helpful or unhelpful? Why? How can you change your Worm thoughts into Caterpillar thoughts in the future?
