Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Friends and learners look for clues to determine how they or someone else is feeling based on the situation and their actions.

Friends and learners generate reasons for emotions and their actions.

Friends and learners recognize that others may respond differently to the same situation.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Through images and examples of situations, learners respond how they feel and recognize that their friends may feel differently. They are also shown a character in two different situations and they identify what the character feels according to the situation they are experiencing. Then they make a drawing of a situation where they have felt an emotion, on the same page they draw a situation where their friend has felt the same way.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

While reading books aloud, pause after characters exhibit emotional reactions and invite students to think back to identify events that explain why they have that feeling.
