5th Grade News
Dear 5th-grade families,
We had an exciting week! Our students had their first field trip and were able to share some quality time. We will continue MAP testing during this upcoming week. Make sure your child has a good night sleep so he/she comes rested. We want to encourage you to support your child's 5th grade service project "The Christmas Box Project." Our goal to fill at least 120 Christmas boxes with joy for the least fortunate kids. We are partnering up with "The Christmas Box Project" foundation and would like to bring joy and smiles to a child this Christmas. You will receive a separate email with more details about our first service project of the year. Please read the Primary School Newsletter for all of the upcoming events. As you know, November and December are full of activities and special days. Students have also started on a new cycle on big questions day and will need a new journal. Please check in with them to make sure they have one! Thank you for your support!

Science or Social Studies

Undertand how gravity operates.
What tigers are doing at school..
Scientists will be exploring gravity through a variety of different experiences and tests. They will also research gravity to learn more about the experiences they have had to make connections between the two of them. After they have a basic understanding of the phenomena they will then create their own working model that demonstrates that gravity is always pulling things toward the earth.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Activate prior knowledge by dialoguing with household members about all the things that each person already knows about gravity.
Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
We will think about how challenges and mistakes can help us become our best selves and interact more effectively with others.
What friends and learners are doing at school..
Friends and learners will play a game in which we use growth mindsets. We will identify and develop Caterpillar thoughts, thoughts that help us recognize that we can grow and change through trying new things, effort, and learning. We will also consider how the environment— support from others and resources—can help us improve, learn from mistakes, and deal with challenges. Let’s leave the fixed mindset Worm thoughts, or the belief that we can’t change, behind and think about the butterflies in our future.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Think about a situation when you had a fixed mindset. Maybe you thought something about yourself would always be that way or that a situation couldn’t get better? How could you have turned your fixed mindset into a growth mindset? How do you think it would have changed the situation?
