5th Grade News

Dear families, 

It was great to see you during Student-Led Conferences this week! Students are having a field trip next Friday. They are going to a bird reserve in La Concepción, Carazo. Please make sure you sign and return the permission slip by next Wednesday, March 6th. Students must wear jeans, Tiger shirt and tennis shoes. read the slip for more information.

Collect information about issues to create arguments. Research and provide evidence that supports a claim.

Writers will learn that when argument writers begin to research a topic, they investigate and collect information about both sides of the issue.  They will also understand that argument writers conduct research and provide evidence that supports their claim.

Leer artículos para iniciar texto de escritura de opinión argumentativa para debatir. Tomar notas para crear la lluvia de ideas y escribir el bosquejo del ensayo.

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Mathematicians will continue their study of fraction-by-fraction multiplication. They will keep using the geoboards to model and solve simple combinations such as 1/2 x 1/4  and 1/4 x 1/4, and then learn to make sketches to model and solve problems.

What tigers are doing at school..

Scientist are going to be learning a new science unit about birds. They will be introduce different types of national birds and going to explore what kind of conditions those birds would need if they were to build them a birdhouse.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

We will learn to be aware of Communication Bloopers so we can catch and stop ourselves when “blooping.” We want to avoid using Communication Bloopers so that we have better conversations and work more successfully with others.

Communicate kindly and respectfully so that everyone feels safe and welcomed.

Speak up in a strong and assertive way that is kind and respectful of others.

Recognize when and how to speak up assertively.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Recall a conversation in which you wanted to speak up for yourself or someone else but “Blooped.” What caused the Blooper? If you could redo that conversation, what would you do differently?
