3rd Grade News

Dear Parents,

Third graders are busy exploring different mentors’ texts to strengthen their writing essay skills. They continue to generate bold claims or thesis and are moving forward to gathering significant evidence to support their thesis. In addition, they  experiment on adding transitional phrases and words  to make their essays more interesting and meaningful. Furthermore, they are also developing their vocabulary skills during read aloud and phonics sessions. Learning prefixes and suffixes are the highlight of their vocabulary sessions.

In math, we have just launched unit 5 which focuses on multiplication, finding area and perimeter. As we embark in this new unit, we encourage our students to practice their multiplication facts.

Please continue to practice with your child telling the time at home. Here is the Interactive Clock to help you do that.

Please remember to read with your child every day for 30 minutes.

Here is a tool to help your child with their reading:

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

What tigers are doing at school...

We are exploring world geography through the compelling question “Where are we?” This question sparks students’ intellectual curiosity through the study of geographic location and the impact of humans on their environment. Working with evidence from sources, students should understand that, although we can be in different “places,” our impact on Earth is worth considering.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Students can look and study the world map.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Friends and learners will learn to be attentive to others, listening and supporting while using body language and gestures to show that we are being attentive.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Friends and learners will Pay attention by watching and listening to other people so they can understand them better and learn from them.

Communicate to others that they are listening by using body language.

Let others know they support them by being attentive.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Describe a time you felt like someone really listened to you. What did the other person do? How did it feel?
