What readers & writers are doing at school...

Our Readers will tackle a second research project this week with more agency and power. They will be reading and thinking across two topics, holding onto the author’s points. They will be seeking out patterns and relationships by pushing their thinking and balancing on-going work with new thinking!

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

What tigers are doing at school..

Students will continue to create a 3D model to support their research project. They will design their model, troubleshoot any problems that occur along the way and then finally bring the model into creation. They will use the knowledge they have gained throughout their research into their extreme weather topic and their knowledge of other models to work collaboratively to create their display. They will also continue to research their topic as they continue to organize the information they currently have and edit to discard unneeded information while highlighting the information that best aligns with their topic.

What tigers could be doing at home...

If the students have any materials within the home that can support their creation of their 3D model, please bring them to school.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

We will learn to change unhelpful Worm thoughts to helpful Caterpillar thoughts when we make mistakes or face a challenge.

.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

We’re going to do an activity to practice using a growth mindset. We will read a situation and think about what feelings and actions the character might take if they had a Worm thought or the belief that things will stay the same. We will swap that Worm thought for a Caterpillar thought, or the belief that we can change. We will determine if the Caterpillar thoughts lead to more pleasant emotions and helpful actions.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

When have you found yourself having Worm thoughts? How were they helpful or unhelpful? Why? How can you change your Worm thoughts into Caterpillar thoughts in the future?
