5th Grade News
Hello fifth-grade families,
We are finishing up our first trimester already! Thank you to those parents who attended their child's SLC this past Tuesday. We would also like to remind you to double-check the SLC sign-up in case your child's SLC is next Wednesday, November 15th. This day is merely for SLC. Students attending SLC on this day come with their parents and leave with them. We have our P.E. Open-Day on November 17th. Make sure to sign-up for it and join yor child for P.E. Don't hesitate to email us in case you have any questions or doubts.

Understand the structure of texts at many levels. Monitor one's comprehension and rely on learned strategies to get unstuck when reading.

Readers will rely on a host of strategies to help them make sense of the increasingReaders will think about how texts are built at the smallest level-the sentence level-to how part of a text is built to how the entire text is built. They will also monitor their own comprehension, and when they notice their comprehension is breaking-down, they rely on a toolkit of strategies to help get themselves unstruck. ly complex vocabulary used by authors of nonfiction texts. Mathematicians will continue adding and subtracting decimals, as well as reading and writing decimals up to the thousandths. They will also find and record the decimal equivalencies for a variety of common fractions.

Learning Goal
- Understand puberty, how bodies change over time, and what strategies to use to enhance emotional well-being.
- Identify major philosophical ideas of the Declaration of Indpendence
What tigers are doing at school..
- Continuing their learning in the wellness unit; summarizing the big ideas in the Declaration of Independence; ranking the grievances that colonists described in the Declaration of Independence; rewriting arguments in the Declaration of Independence; comparing independence movements throughout the Western Hemisphere compared to that of the U.S.

As a family, practice various strategies for maintaining emotional wellbeing; discuss student learning during the wellness/puberty unit.
Dialogue with household members about what it means to be independent and what they've learned about the Declaration of Independence unit.

Student attendance must be confirmed no later than next Friday November 17th, otherwise your account will be charged.It's important for us to know, as each student has a designated buddy, and we want to ensure no one is left alone on the day of the feast.
