2nd Grade News

Dear Parents,

we hope you are happy enjoying your children' s progress. We are starting the last Trimester of the 2nd Grade with lots of activities and new learning. In Reading our Tigers will finish their Fiction Unit and will celebrate their reading time they shared with Club Members. In Math our mathematicians will use the 1000 plastic chain they created to measure and also solve some broken chain problems. If you did not get a chance to come to Student Led Conferences make sure you write to your teacher and ask for a meeting to discuss your child's success. We can meet any day between 8:30 and 9:00.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Fiction Readers will start the last bend of this Unit. They'll return to all the skills and the methods that our students have been learning all year, and in addition work extra hard to encourage children’s discussions as they engage in fiction book clubs.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

English Literacy: Readers can study the following charts that might work as a guide during their independent reading book club time.

Phonics: Next week, students will learn that all vowels can sometimes make the /uh/ sound by studying a snap word, the, and a long BLC word. They will also celebrate the end of unit 3, Word builders, by making a small presentation in class showing the skills learned in class about being a word builder.

Learning Goal

You know that teamwork means working together to complete something or to solve a problem. Good teamwork requires listening, cooperating, sharing ideas, and helping others.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Use communication skills to make collaboration easier, more fun, and more productive.

Use teamwork to think of new ideas and do things I might not be able to do alone.

Listen to all ideas, share, and help others when I collaborate.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Think about another time that you had to communicate in a group. What made it go well?

You can use the Teamwork skills chart to have better communication.
