2nd Grade News
Dear Parents,
Another week went by full of fun learning activities. August is coming to an end, 2nd A will begin PE Classes and 2nd B will begin Swimming Classes next August 28th until September 11th. Our Mathematitians will use their Number Racks and add and subtract basic facts up to 20. They will be able to know which are double, double plus or minus one facts. In Reading our Tigers will be reading in bigger scoops they will aslo stop, think about the story and retell with details. Our Professor of Phonics will be looking for troublemaker words and use the strategies we are teaching them to tackle them.

2nd Grade Readers will roll up their sleeves to figure out tricky words, drawing on everything they know.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
English Literacy: Readers will be tackling trouble maker words while they read. When words are tricky chart.
Phonics: Professors of Phonics will be in the lookout for troublemaker words. They will learn steps to read them and will be noticing wich part of the word is tricky, drawing on phonics knowledge to make sense of that part, inventing a trick to remember the spelling and practicing the word if needed. Also, they will be practicing the use of puntuaction. TackleAWord_
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Read a book you have at home and be in the look out for troublemaker words. Write them down on this paperTroublemakerWords, underline or circle with a color pencil the tricky part, and use the strategies learned in class to solve them.

Los estudiantes aprenderán a revisar sus trabajos y fijarse metas como escritores.

Los escritores maestros estudiaran sobre lo importante que es el inicio y el final en las historias. Prestan gran atención en los detalles, mientras releen como detectives y escriben nuevas historias estableciéndose nuevas metas como escritores.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Releer las historias asegurarse que su inicio incluya acciones, conversaciones, ambiente, y su final contenga (acciones, conversaciones,sentimientos)
Agregar palabras de transiciones como : “cuando, luego, después”.
Revisar si escribió muchas líneas en cada página y a través de muchas hojas de papel.

Students will fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Students will use their Number Racks to investigate Near Doubles facts. This helps students anchor on double facts when determining sums for Near Doubles , or Doubles Plus or Minus one facts.

Students will understand that communities work together to come out with solutions to face challenges in meeting their needs and wants.
What scientists are doing at school...
Students will discuss and think about how a community is not just a bunch of individual “mes” living in a shared space but also a collective “we” that interacts, grows and tries to solve issues. This inquiry challenges them to understand that through businesses, town organizations, and local governments, a community meets the needs and wants of its people, finding strength in collective efforts to address problems.

Learning Goal
Learners and friends understand what is the Peace Place?, learn peace Place steps through simple examples and practice Peace Place steps through role playing.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Learners and friends use the peace place poster as a guide to follow the steps to resolve a conflict. Also, through examples, they role-play with their partner to practice the steps.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Share story time with your child, and when you see a conflict between the characters, mention how we can help the characters resolve the conflict, use the steps to guide them

Home connections are submitted every Fridays.
Please make sure students bring healthy snacks. Candies or Chocolate Bars are not allowed.
Please make sure you send an email to the teacher notifying any important information about your child regarding after school or any other important announcement before 12 pm.
