Kindergarten News

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you all who were able to attend our Parent Workshop of Growing Language Learners. It is essential we understand and be able to support our kids in their developmental stages as they grow. If you were not able to attend, here is the presentation. We are excited to let you know that kindergarteners will be having their first field trip on Friday Nov 3rd to Mombacho. Today we sent permission slips inside their green folders, please sign and return at latest on Wednesday Nov 1st to your homeroom teacher.

On another note, in reading workshop students learned that after reading a book with a partner, they can have a little book talk. They can talk about "wow" pages and add a pinch of their own thinking to any book they read. In phonics, students used picture cards to say, hear, and then locate the appropriate letter on an alphabet chart. Mathematicians have been learning different ways to show their understanding (10 frames, finger patterns, number racks, tally marks). This week they will be introduced to Unit 3 "Bikes and Doubles", please see the Unit Overview.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

ELA: Students will learn that readers share their reading with others. They will know that when they give the gift of reading, they should both read the words and share their thinking.

Phonics: Students will label items in pictures, first by thinking of a word that names the picture, listening for the first sound in that word, thinking about which letter goes with that sound, checking the alphabet chart, and then writing the letter.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

ELA: Students can practice reading this book I Like to Eat at home talk about it and practice listing their favorite foods by writing them down in a paper.
