2nd Grade News
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your support last Monday, May 6th going to Volcan Mombacho. The students had so much fun, enjoyed the hiking and the time they shared with all their friends in 2nd grade. Time is going so fast, remember to read daily the BAS (reading test) is coming up May 13th, so encourage your child to read at home between 30 - 60 minutes daily. This Friday is the last feedback folder you are receiving from your child. Please go over it and keep practicing those skills at home. Anytime you need to contact us please do it before 12 a.m.

What readers & writers are doing at school...
Phonics: Word collectors will read texts and identify words that appear to contain prefixes. They will determine if a group of letters is acting like a prefix or not. Also, they will investigate how suffixes affect the meaning of words.

Phonics: Read a book and try to find words with prefixes and suffixes.

estrategias para leer con precisión y fluidez.

Los lectores estudian los tipos de poesía y son capaces de comprender
y reconocer el lenguaje literario y la musicalidad utilizado por los poetas.
También, aprenden estrategias para desarrollar la precisión, ritmo y expresión
adecuada en la lectura de poemas.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Lectores en casa:
-Los lectores estudian los diferentes tipos de poesías y descubren la entonación y ritmo para cada tipo de poema.
-Eligen diferentes tipos de poemas con temas que les resulten interesantes.
-Para los estudiantes es importante que escuchen en casa un modelo a seguir, esto les ayudará a comprender cómo deben leer con fluidez.
-Leen poemas y se aseguran de estar comprendiendo lo que están leyendo, pueden recordar las preguntas (¿Cuál es el tema del poema?, ¿Qué emociones y sentimientos el poeta intenta transmitir?)
-Lectores leen el mismo poema varias veces, para familiarizarse con el texto y mejorar su fluidez lectora.
-Los estudiantes leen en voz alta los poemas, para desarrollar la fluidez, la entonación y la velocidad de lectura.
-Los estudiantes mientras leen conectan con las emociones y sentimientos del poeta para lograr leer con expresión corporal y emocional.

2nd Graders will be solving and posing story problems about ants .
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Using the story as a point of departure, students work to arrange groups of 100 and then 120 ants in even
marching rows of two, four, five, and ten lines. In the following session students consider the ways
in which a group of hungry ants can evenly share one, two, and three granola bars, using denomi-
nators of 2, 3, and 4. As they move more deeply into fraction work, students create their own set of
construction paper fraction strips and use them to play a game. The module ends with two sessions

What tigers are doing at school...
Students will be discussing how to improve their current water bottles and lunchbooxes and design a new lunchbox and water bottle.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Look at an object you have at home, for example, a spoon, a chair,etc. and make a new design of it that show how to make it better.
