Happy New Year Kindergarten families!
We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday vacation and wish you a prosperous and joyful 2024! Students had a smooth transition back to class. They were excited to see all their friends and did a great job remembering classroom routines. They learned a new workplace in math class and were ready to continue with their important reading and writing work!
Home Communication Plans will be available on Tuesday of next week in the Parent Portal for you to view. The Home Communication Plan provides information on the results of the progress monitoring we did in December, what students are doing well at, and goals they are still working towards in literacy and math.
We are excited to share with you that on Thursday, Jan 18th we will be having our Parent Workshop on Growing Problem Solvers at 7:10 am in room C3. We hope to see you all there :)
Important Information:
-KA has swimming, please have students wear their swimming suits under their uniforms and send towels, goggles, swim caps, comb, and underwear in a swim bag. If your child is not swimming you need to send a medical excuse to jcastro@ans.edu.ni and primary office and your homeroom teacher.
-Thursday, Jan 18th: Growing Problem Solvers Parent Workshop at 7:10am.

ELA: Writers will be able to choose a piece for their writing celebration.
Phonics: Students will learn to hear rimes in words.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
ELA: Writers will use all they know to revise a piece before publishing.They will also learn how to end a story with feelings.
We will celebarte the end of our unit by publishing our revise piece!
Phonics: Students will learn that they can put parts of words together to make new words, especially testing combinations of snap words and letters to see which words they can make.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
ELA: Writers can work at home on revising a story and adding feelings
Phonics: Students can practice writing as many words they can using the word parts of -at, -in, -it, -an

Los superlectores activan su poder de releer los libros para comprender mejor lo que sucede en los cuentos e historias.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Los lectores aprenderán a que la relectura puede ser muy divertida! usarán el poder de las partes de las palabras que ya conocen para escribir muchas otras, deberán incluso actuar partes del libro y revivir sus momentos favoritos del cuento mediante la relectura.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
En casa será emocionante practicar usando los pasos aprendidos en el taller para una eficiente relectura, tales como: 1. Que su lectura suene fluida 2.Convertir palabras nuevas en palabras comunes 3.Usan los dibujos para comprender el significado de las palabras 4.Conocen mas a los personajes 5. Usan el poder de las partes de las palabras.
Mathematics
Learning Goal
Students will be introduced to using the number line model and develop their counting skills.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Mathematicians have been introduce to unit 4. They are exploring the number line model. They will practice counting the forward and backward sequence. Students will find the missing numbers in a sequence, and also use positional language ( before, after) to describe relationship among numbers.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Students can make their own number line at home using any material.
Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
Students will learn the difference between a map and a globe
What tigers are doing at school...
What are the benefits in knowning the difference between a map and globe. Students will construct both and compare and contrast each to better understand the differences between them. And learning when do we use a map and when we use a globe.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Students can use a map and a globe to navigate and understand their surrounds, and find locations they've already been it and places they haven't.
Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
Friends and learners promote inclusive attitudes and behaviors.
Friends and learners empathy and kindness.
Friends and learners identify and practice ways to include others.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Counselor explains the definition of inclusion and models examples of how to include others in games or in the classroom. Then, through a collaborative activity of building an airplane with Legos, they practice inclusive attitudes and the counselor guides them so that everyone participates and includes each other.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Can draw a picture of how they can ask to be included if they want to play a game or do an activity with someone else. Remind them about taking turns and share when they are participating in an activity so that all may be included.
