5th Grade News

Dear 5th-grade families,

We continue our MAP tests this week. 5th-graders will complete their Math MAP test this week. Remember there is no school on Labor Day this upcoming Wednesday, May 1st. Stay safe and enjoy your day off! Rising 6th-graders' Parent Orientation is coming up soon! We'll have our English session on May 16 from 7:15-8:30 and our Spanish session on the same day from 1:15-2:30 in the OSSI Room. Looking ahead, we want to share some information about 5th-grade Promotion Ceremony. Students will wear the 6th-grade blue-and-white school uniform to symbolize the transition to middle school. The white polo shirts can be purchased in the ANS Tiger Store.

Save the Date for the FIfth-Grade Promotion Ceremony: Fifth-Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 28th in the CAA at 9:30 a.m. Your child should arrive at school at the normal dropoff time. Parents will enter Gate 8 in the CAA, no earlier than 9 a.m.

After the ceremony, the students can go home with their parents as this will be their last day of school. The fifth graders do not attend classes on May 29th.

Each family can have up to 6 family members attend the ceremony.

Siblings can participate in the continuation ceremony. Please email their teacher and the Primary Office to let them know beforehand; siblings are expected to stay in school for the rest of the day.

Learning Goal

When we practice the STEP It Up! approach to conflicts, we become more confident in our belief that we can resolve interpersonal conflict and can better anticipate the consequences of solutions we want to try.

What friends and learners are doing at school..

Think about multiple perspectives when trying to resolve a conflict.

Use the STEP It Up! approach to come up with a way to resolve the conflict that is fair for those involved.

Evaluate different solutions to resolve conflicts.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

When you began this unit, you read about the Animals of Conflict and thought about whether your approach to conflict was like the Turtle’s, the Owl’s, or the Shark’s. Now that you have learned more about approaches to conflict resolution, has your approach changed? Explain.
