1st Grade News
Dear 1st grade Families
As we embark on a new week of learning, I'd like to share with you what our Tigers are going to be working on:
Readers will Focus on word solving, particularly with the diphthongs ou, ow, and oo, exploring how they spell different sounds. Also, they are going to experience collaborative exploration of little word parts and vowel teams to build and decode new words.
Mathematicians will have Hands-on activities with 2-D shapes, including composing, decomposing, and understanding halves, fourths, and thirds.
This week we’ll make emphasis on responsible citizenship, teaching students to navigate conflicts intentionally, consider multiple perspectives, and practice empathy.
Your support is crucial in making this learning journey enriching for our students. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Learning Goal
In this unit, students learn that encountering problems, including conflict with others, is a normal part of the human experience. As they learn to resolve problems and conflicts in an intentional way, students deepen their understanding of themselves and others. Lessons focus on considering multiple perspectives and practicing empathy when learning during conflict. Through a four-step problem solving process, students learn the importance of getting input from others when resolving problems and working together to build healthy relationships.
