2nd Grade News
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Another fantastic week of learning has gone by and our students continue growing as learners! We would like to thank each one of you for attending our Open House this Wednesday September 6th. 2B Tigers are ending their Swimming Classes this coming Monday, Sept. 11th and after our Fiestas Patrias 2C Class begins swimming until Oct. 6th. Monday, September 11 Students are invited to wear traditional Nicaraguan clothing Huipil, please make sure you pack your child a typical Nicaraguan food for snack and lunch.

Learning Goal
Readers will finish the first Reading Unit and they will be able to start the first unit of Nonfiction Writing Chapter Books.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
English Literacy: Readers will learn how to pay close attention to author's craft notcing what authors do, why they do it and how. Phonics: Students will move from tackling troublemaker words to tackling bigger troubles in the world. In addition, they will start to collect and share poweful patterns. Grown up Writers. Find powerful patterns
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Read a book at home and try to find patterns in it like Jill, hill, rain, again,etc. Use the chart to study the patterns. Find powerful patterns

Aprender de otros autores los estilos de escritura
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Los estudiantes aprenderán lo que los autores sus estilos de escritura, estudiando lo hacen para elegir palabras muy cuidadosas y pensadas que captan el sonido y la belleza de su escritura, y todo lo que se puede admirar del texto e intentar lo mismo en cada historia, agregaran metaforas y comparaciones a sus escrituras. Tambien los escritores revisarán y harán una edición rápida pensando en todo lo que han aprendido sobre edición asegurándose que todo está bien, antes de compartir su escritura con otro escritor.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Leer un libro en casa sobre una historia real, y observar cuidadosamente cómo el autor del libro hace que el lector vea, escuche y sienta?
Identificar en el libro comparaciones. (ponerlo en práctica en las narraciones)
Intentar agregar pista a las narraciones, previendo al autor de que algo va a suceder (ponerlo en práctica en las narraciones)
Revisar y editar cuidadosamente cada una de las narraciones (En lugar de borrar, utilizar notas adhesivas al editar).

Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow
What tigers are doing at school...
Students will understand what plants need to grow. They will make observations about how the rainy season is affecting the plants and then plan and conduct an experiment to collect data and evidence to prove what they have observed or learned.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Students can observe the plants they have at home and write down their observations in a notebook so they can share about it the upcoming week.

Learners and friends discover what they have in common with each other and can do together.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Learners and friends play getting to know each other. They talked with a buddy to learn more about them and find out things we have in common.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
You can ask the following questions: When you played with Mr Camilo, what did you discover that you have in common with your friends and what things do you like that are different?

Reminders:
Monday, September 11th: Early dismissal day (11:30am) - Students can wear traditional Nicaraguan clothing. Pack themselves a traditional Nicaraguan food for lunch.
Sometimes it gets cold, please make sure students bring their ANS sweaters with their names on it. Our students visit many places and it will very hard for them to find them.
Home connections are submitted every Friday.
Please make sure students bring healthy snacks. Candies or Chocolate Bars are not allowed. Toys are not permitted.
Please make sure you send an email to the teacher notifiying any important information about your child regarding after school or any other important announcement before 12 pm.
