Dear First Grade Families,
mportant next step in our students personal and academic goals. Please make sure to follow up on them at home. This week Boss Reader's will celebrate their growth by recording Soojin Draw's a Story. This recording will be shared with other classes so that readers can show how they bring their books to life. Mathemagicians will tap into ratio tables while learning about penguins in the Artic.

Phonics: Word builders will work together to learn the little parts that words are made of and use those parts to build new words.

Reading: Continue to practice being a STAR reader using this anchor chart and the book below.
Phonics: Use what we practice about OU and OW to read the book “If I Could Fly”. Remember to say them out loud (words OU - OW) and write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).

Students are going to build a simple machine that helps them lift things into the air.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Think about common tasks you do every day (e.g., opening a door, using a can opener, riding a bike) and identify the simple machines involved. Discuss how these machines make these tasks easier.

Friends and learners identify the last two steps in problem solving (Think, Try).
Friends and learners use a spirit of curiosity to generate fair solutions to given scenarios.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Learners and friends will reinforce steps to solving a problem. They will focus on finding solutions to problems that are fair and meet everyone’s needs and practice these skills during a collaborative project as they work to plan a party.
