Dear 1st Grade Families,
We are getting to the end of the month of November and a lot of learning is happening. Our Tigers are becoming experts writing teachig books about topics they know a lot about. They are also learning a lot about Birds and how they build their nests. Happy Thanksgiving!
Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks
English Literacy
Learning Goal
Writing: Writers will learn elaboration techniques to add more, like asking questions the reader might have about their book, as well as using twin sentences to write more.
PHONICS: Take time to see tough words, you can use everything you know about letters and sounds to solve them.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Writing: Writers will take their time to share their topics and books with other writers, they will work together to add or subtract from their writing,by adding more details about the topic, use fancy words that are related to their topic and even use pictures to add more information for the reader.
PHONICS: Word detectives are always on the case, whenever they read and write. When they see tough words, they can use everything they know about letters and sounds to solve them.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Writing: Writers should always use theire checklists to make sure they are adding all the necessary details. Read this book "Why do Leaves Change Color" together, use the Informative Writing Checklist and ask is the writer doing this, or should they add more.
PHONICS: Use what we practice about “Word Detectives Take an Even Closer Look !” to read the book “My Teacher”. Now from the book, get examples of silent e, vowel teams, double consonants, contractions or compound words.
Write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).

En casa leer el libro Las Águilas calvas , usa tus dedos para contar algo interesante que hayas aprendido después de leer.

Online Math games Place Value Basketball Connection Doubles and Doubles Plus or Minus 1 page 1 page 2. Due on Friday December 1st.

Develop an understanding of factors that contribute to healthy development. Students will be challenged on making healthy food choices.

Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
Friends and learners promote inclusive attitudes and behaviors.
Friends and learners empathy and kindness.
Friends and learners identify and practice ways to include others.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Counselor explains the definition of inclusion and models examples of how to include others in games or in the classroom. Then, through a collaborative activity of building an airplane with Legos, they practice inclusive attitudes and the counselor guides them so that everyone participates and includes each other.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Can draw a picture of how they can ask to be included if they want to play a game or do an activity with someone else. Remind them about taking turns and share when they are participating in an activity so that all may be included.
