Dear families,

Thank you for your support in organizing the Friendship celebration. 5th-graders spent some quality time with their classmates and shared their cards. We have an exciting upcoming week. Our Rising DALE culmination event is finally around the corner and students are giving the final touches to their presentations. Students are also finishing their Gravity unit project and preparing for their presentations. Make sure you sign up for our Student-Led Conferences happening on February 28th and 29th. Make a plan for a research study drawing on previous research knowledge. Analyze texts by reading across more than one text paying careful attention to craft and comparing and contrasting choices made by authors.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Readers will learn that when researchers embark on a new research project, they start by making a plan for that study, drawing on all that they have learned from previous research studies. They will also learn that one way readers can analyze texts is by reading across more than one text, paying careful attention to craft, and comparing and contrasting choices made by the authors of each text.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

We will learn to be aware of Communication Bloopers so we can catch and stop ourselves when “blooping.” We want to avoid using Communication Bloopers so that we have better conversations and work more successfully with others.

What friends and learners are doing at school..

Have a conversation with others by being attentive to other people’s verbal and nonverbal messages to understand what they mean.

Know which Communication Bloopers (interrupting, controlling, ignoring, withdrawing) prevent me from working successfully and use the right strategy when communicating.

Avoid using Communication Bloopers when having conversations and working with others.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Think about a time when you worked in a small group that struggled to get its work done. If you could go back in time, what would you tell group members about blooping and how to avoid it? What did you say or do that was a “bloop”? What could you have said or done differently to avoid the “bloop”?
