Dear Parents,
October is almost gone, we had so much fun this month working so hard in all subjects especially in our Writing class getting our Nonfiction Books ready for our Readers. Next week we will go over the books and add anything we forgot or fancy up some other sections. We would like to take this opportunity to formally invite you, to come to your child's classroom November 8th, we will need you to sign up in the following parent sign up 2A Literacy Celebration Parent Sign Up, 2B Literacy Celebration Parent Sign Up, 2C Literacy Celebration Parent Sign Up so we can inform the front gate. Next week on November 2nd we have an early dismissal at 11:00 am. Remember also we have a new Science unit coming up and we will need the flower plants in order to create a flower garden in our backyards.

English Literacy
Learning Goal
Writers are close to end their Writing Unit. They are editing, adding details, fixing mistakes, hooking their readers with more interesting introductions and adding more information in each section.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
English Literacy: Writers will continue writing their Nonfiction books making sure they add a powerful hook, facts and definitions and more information that make them experts on their books. They will fancy up, relying on experts writers and sharing with others their masterpiece.
Phonics: Students will work on soft and hard sounds of C and G. They will get in groups or pairs to sort words containing these sounds and then notice the relationships between those consonants and the vowels that follow them. Hard and soft C and G.pdf
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Classify the following words into hard ans soft sounds: circled, city, gymnastics, gentle, gym, cylinder, century, goals, garden, cider, gather, contest, cyclone.

Mathematics
Learning Goal
Students use the 2s chart to extend counting by 2s through 100 on a hundreds grid. Also demonstrates an understanding that the digits in a 3 digit number represents amounts of hundreds, tens and ones.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Students will be counting by 2s and determine whether a group of objects has an odd or even number of members. They will also estimate and then count a large collection of craft sticks regrouping them into groups of hundreds, tens and ones as needed.

Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
What tigers are doing at school...
Next week we will be switching to Science. We will start unit 2 in wich we will be taking students on a journey to understand the important relationship between plants and animals. They will examine the wide variety of animals that live in Nicaragua and the relationship that those animals have with the natural work around them, specifically looking at how they help plants by spreading pollen and dispersing seeds.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Students can make a drawing of the pollination process and explain it to their parents.
Social Emotional Learning Program

"Understand that strong emotions can make it hard to think clearly and take safe, kind, or useful actions.
Practice self-regulation, or getting calm, strategies in response to situations.
Identify personal and interpersonal outcomes when they use self-regulation strategies.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
The counselor reads a story about two characters who practice self-regulation strategies in the story. We also use an emotion thermometer to identify strong emotions and how this makes it difficult to think before acting or being unsafe or unkind to yourself and others.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
At home you can reinforce with the relaxation station, creating a space where you can place the poster and the feeling thermometer and practice daily.
