1st Grade News
Dear 1st Grade Families,
Another amazing week of classes in first grade. We are happy to see how our students strengthen their practices and habits of mathematicians and enjoy the challenges of “Add and subtract on the number line”. They have been developing problem-solving skills that are crucial for decision-making, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. In reading and writing our achievements shine bright like the sun because we are reading carefully, looking all the way through words in order to learn more snap words. This week we also had a special guest in our classroom, Dr. María Gabriela Torres, with whom we had the opportunity to learn more about “personal hygiene and healthy living”. Students were so excited to learn and apply the knowledge they gained from our tiger doctor. As you can imagine, we were very motivated to learn by a variety of topics and challenges. Our students are learning from and with one another and from the world around them. Definitely December is a moment of magical discoveries, they are engaging with their surroundings and cultivating new interests in the practical world. They’re feeling confident, independent and eager to take on new challenges. Thank you for your continued support,

What friends and learners are doing at school...
Empathy is the ability to identify with and understand people’s emotions—to feel what they feel. It is a precursor to compassion or when one actively tries to find solutions to help others. Empathy is linked with greater peer acceptance and positive relationships as students improve their prosocial behaviors (e.g., helping). In this lesson, students will think about how characters feel in a situation and role-play ways to show empathy and that they care
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Model different ways to show empathy, such as asking follow-up questions to show interest, offering to listen to something they have to say, or providing encouragement. Reinforce that we can show we care by letting others feel their feelings and by being a good listener.
