Dear families,

We are happy to see the growth in our Tigers! They have been working hard in Math to compare and order fractions. And in Content they received a very informative speech from a guest speaker. Students were amazed with new information and highly engaged with asking questions.

We strongly encourage our students to practice reading at home, practice their multiplication skills, and ask questions. In reading, they should be able to discuss with their parents the exposition (setting), rising and falling actions, climax, and the resolution of the story. They should also be able to describe the characters in their story. Please make sure to continue to use the Character choice board and bring it on Fridays for the homeroom teacher to revise.

Writers will work on writing Baby Literary Essays

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Students will continue writing Essays! This week we will spend more time revising all of their essays.

They will be using transitional words and phrases and elaborating on their evidence. They might write their revisions on a Post-it or strip of paper and tape it onto their draft. They will also, choose one essay they want to revise further, edit and publish. They will use everything they have learned to help them do this, including all of the tools and resources they have seen in this unit. By the end of the week, they will have a piece they can publish.

Mathematicians will solve measurement problems. The students will review fractions and they will analyze data. Mathematicians will work with a partner to create a beanstalks, measure them, and display length data on line plots. 

Science or Social Studies

What tigers are doing at school...

Students will have a small debate or work with partners in order to start thinking about the problem of palm oil. They will include cause and effect scenario and will create a strong claim on the concept of palm oil production.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Share with parents the pros and cons of palm oil production and share with them the products that contain palm oil. Do we have these products in our houses?

Learning Goal

Friends and learners will discuss and role-play different ways we can respond when we experience or see bullying situations to make sure everyone feels safe and valued.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Identify the roles in bullying situations.

Use perspective-taking and empathy in bullying situations.

Support others to help end bullying situations and to create positive, fair classrooms.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Tell about a time you recognized bullying behavior and what role you played. Include information about how the situation was resolved or could have been resolved.
